Actually, I prefer "][e". 8-)
Although, I generally use the characters to make distinctions between
models, based on the splash screens. For instance, the computer sitting
in front of me is an Apple IIgs. At the other end of the desk is an Apple
//e, with a 65C02 CPU, Mousetext in ROM, and enhanced firmware.
Downstairs in the kitchen, connected to a K'Nex 3-foot Ferris wheel (I'm
using the paddle port to do PWM motor control...) is an Apple ][e with a
6502 CPU and the original ][e ROM. The first Apples I ever worked with
were an Apple ][ and and Apple ][+ when I was in sixth grade, and in a
closet here someplace I have an Apple //c.
Of course, purist that I am, I figure "][" is always appropriate for any
Apple ][. Admittedly, that's a little hard to type on an unmodified ][+.
