Hi. I recently purchased an older PowerMac(7300/200) to read and write
prodos disks. When I bought this one, I knew that only certain models
can use prodos disks, but i couldn't find any info as to which
model(s) I should be looking for. Using the Apple.com knowledge base,
it states that the PowerMac 7300 IS compatible with prodos...but I'm
really not sure.....i got the impression that apple no longer cares if
the info on the "older" systems is correct or not.
First of all, can any of you Mac gurus tell me if this mac is supposed
to be capable of reading/writing prodos disks? If not, how much of an
older model do I need to get to do this?
On this mac, I cant seem to write prodos disks, but I can read disks
made on my IIgs. When I simply try to copy a file to a prodos disk,
the Mac freezes COMPLETELY. Only way I can recover is to reset (power
cycle). I tried using Disk Copy on the Mac to make the GS/OS 6.0.1
Disks and it seems to work, but my IIgs wont read them at all.....even
though the Mac sees it as a prodos disk.
I realize this could also be a problem with my floppy drives not being
calibrated properly...especially the old IIgs drives. Not sure what to
do in this case.....
Assuming the problem is on the Mac side, and assuming this PM is
supposed to be able to work on prodos disks, can I simply get another
floppy drive to make it work? Is there a specific model # of floppy
drive I'd be looking for? Maybe the drive in my mac isn't compatible
with prodos??
If it matters, the Mac has OS 9.2.2 installed.
The IIgs is a Rom 01 with an SHH MicroDrive Turbo, Sirius RAM card
(8megs) and a single 3.5 drive.
I'm trying to install 6.0.1 to the hard drive, but have misplaced my
disks. I know I can probably buy another copy, but want to use a Mac
to be the middle man between the internet and my IIgs. It's so easy to
get files back and forth that way.
Thanks,
Romeo
ps: This is my first Mac and I'm amazed at how similar MacOS is to
GS/OS.......even 9.2.2!!!! The GS really was ahead of its time in
more than one way!!!
