My idea would have the 3.5" disks formatted in such a way that they could be read by the same tools used to read MS-DOS disks. (dd, raread/rawrite, and I've thrown together such tools myself).
Basically, a hardware implementation of the slot 5 floppy drive in Dapple (which maps to the A: drive).
