Check your system folder and see if the ProDOS extension is loaded.
If it isn't, then check your Extensions Manager to see if it has been
disabled. If not, then I would suggest reinstalling system 7.5 because
it should have both PC Exchange and ProDOS formats available.
I am using a Mac Performa 575 which is a big brother to the LCII
(68040 series based on a Quadra) with System 7.5.5 and I can
read ProDOS disk.

Sure can. When you put in a unformatted disk you should have the
following options: 800K Mac HFS and 800K ProDOS in a drop
down box. If not, you have not installed the ProDOS extension.
