Disk images will only have the boot block if the original disk
had one. Otherwise the boot block (block 0 and 1 in P8) should
contain a short M/L program to display a boot error and halt the
system. Different Prodos formatting programs put different error
messages here also. For instance, an Appleworks formatted disk
records the fact that it was a data disk. I remember seeing others
but the most common is the Apple Utility method of placing a short
m/l code to load and execute Prodos.
As I mentioned earlier, Dos disks can contain various messages. If
the disk has been modified for extra storage by removing Dos, it
should have a modified boot track which displays an error and halts,
similar to Prodos.
