My ROM 01 machine, when I was using the internal speaker as my only
sound output, used to make all sorts of noises but I didn't find them
all that annoying as they weren't very loud. I used to get quiet
clicks when the IIgs was polling drives and I could here other noises
which changed depending on what I was doing with the computer at the
time. Pulling down menus did make a distinctive sound.
The ROM 3 had improved sound hardware so it probably isn't even
noticeable on thos machines.
I'd suggest to anyone who finds these noises to be too annoying to
turn down their system volume in the Control Panel, plug the headphone
jack into a stereo with some kind of noise reduction system or get a
stereo output card for their machine and use it instead. I'm not 100%
certain that any of these steps will eliminate the noises but it will
certainly help reduce them.
