Perhaps you meant "..when running GS/OS"? If you set slot 4 to "Your
Card" a ROM 3, you lose the mouse in P8, but keep it in desktop
applications under GS/OS.
On a ROM 1, setting slot 4 to "Your Card" loses the mouse completely.

Yes. AppleTalk will take the printer port if both slots 1 and 2 are set
to "Your Card".

It is handled quite differently on a ROM 3: you must set slot 1 or 2 to
"AppleTalk", and can't use that slot for a card (except cards which
don't contain firmware, like an accelerator). You can use slot 7 for
your own card. (You can also set slot 7 to "AppleTalk", but this is
only for compatibility with old software that doesn't know to look
elsewhere, and enabling it wastes a second slot).
