There's also the little fact that Stuffit, like Shrinkit, is an established
standard. And our buddy Nathan is the only one who ever bellyaches about it.
BTW there are Stuffit compressors and expanders which run under windows.

Binhex isn't a "wrapper", it's a text encoding like binscii. And there are
ways to avoid having to download binhex files. When I was doing graduate
work and only had shell style access from the school machines , i.e. no 
Fetch, I used a unix program called mcvert on my host. I transferred binhex 
files to my host and ran mcvert on 'em. It converts binhex into Macbinary, 
which downloads a lot quicker.
