I think this problem disappeared on my system shortly after I installed
Balloon, which intercepts requests to open .SHK files and opens them
itself.  The problem, as I see it, is that each time GSHK is launched,
it adds more icons to the Desktop file, even if those icons are already
present.

I think Balloon, formerly available from EGO Systems, is now available
from Joe Kohn.
