Indeed, and I think I will be settling on 9Mhz for the time being. I started testing at 10.5Mhz, 45 mins in the machine locked up. Turned everything off, swapped in the 36Mhz crystal, turned the machine back on...and nothing. All I could hear is the power supply making a chirping noise thats likely the over-current protection kicking in (yes the crystal was installed right). Turned everything off again and let it cool off more, came back, turned everything back on and ran the machine for over an hour with no issues. I still have to test with the cover on, but it shouldn't be an issue as the GALs seem cooler at 9Mhz.

So besides heat, its likely my poor 23 year old IIgs power supply has seen better days and can't handle the power demands it used to once warmed up. Does anyone rebuild these units any more? I seem to remember Reactive Micro offering the service. I guess the LittlePower and an off the shelf ATX power supply is likely a cheaper/easier solution at this point (although not quite as elegant).

Speaking of age, how long have ROM 01 clock batteries lasted? My original is still keeping time!
