bizzare IIgs monitor problem...

 After not using my IIgs for a while I had move some of my various computer
stuff around and unpluged the pluged back in it's power cords to my surge
protector. After turning on the surge protector, then my PC, I turned on the
monitor to my IIgs (It was the stock monitor that came with my IIgs). When I
did so everything turned on and connected to my surge protecter turned off
including the monitor itself. When I played with the surge protector, It
would not work again. I then tried plugging the monitor into the wall, and
when I would turn it on the light would flash on for a momment then blink
off and nothing would happen. So my question is what happened to my monitor
that resulted in it frying my surge protector and itself?
