It's not really a trick but a basic filtering scheme that helps to
eliminate RF interference. The ferrit core damps common mode signals on
the coax cable but doesn't affect differential signals (these are
confined inside the cable). This filtering scheme is commonly used for
monitor connections, modems, and even flat-ribbon digital lines.
