OK, let's try this:
script /tmp/tmpfile.SIS
telnet -L www.vuse.vanderbilt.edu 80
<wait for connect -- about 3 seconds>
GET http://www.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/~lesherjt/ftp/jtl-92.jpg
<wait until file is done printing>
<Ctrl-D>
uuencode jtl-92.jpg < /tmp/tmpfile.SIS
<capture output>
<wait until "end">
rm /tmp/tmpfile.SIS
<we're done, just uudecode the pic, and xlate to SHR format>
Comments:
1) Within 24 hours, I'll post a modified command list, without
the script(1) command.
2) The "-L" option on telnet specifies 8-bit transfer.
3) This pic looks nothing like me -- anymore.
4) The only current problem is the existence of 5 extra lines
at the beginning of the file -- they can be stripped easily
enough.
5) If the 'sz' command is available on the remote system, it
would be preferable to use it.
