I just hooked up the 15" LCD. Using the scan doubler set to 640x480,
it looked about the same as the 17" LCD. Setting the scan doubler to
output 1024x768 (native resolution of the 15" LCD), things look
noticeably better. The desktop pattern is still shown as vertical
lines, but the pattern is more even. The text and graphics also look
sharper. So, doing away with the extra upscaling that the 17" LCD was
doing to 1280x1024, is a significant improvement (I sort of expected
this).

At least with this particular scan doubler, having it upscale to the
native resolution of the LCD gives the best results. Simply scan
doubling to 640x480 and having the LCD upscale to its native
resolution is not as good. Of course, I have only tried two different
run-of-the-mill PC LCD displays. A better PC LCD or a good LCD TV may
be different. And as touched on earlier, a CRT will probably produce
the best results.
