No, I don't think you want to do this.  It MIGHT work, but I have had
problems with that method using the SSC in my ][e.  Sometimes, when I
redirect output first, I mysteriously lose my keyboard...and I always lose
my display.

But, the firmware for the SSC (and for the ][gs serial ports) will leave
the keyboard hooked in when you do an IN#2, with the added bonus that you
don't lose your screen when you're trying to type a command.

I dunno.  I always redirect input first...works for me.  In all honesty,
it probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference.
