The connector idea is a good one, but bear in mind that the battery in the
GS is a lithium battery, and most cordless phones use NiCd's. Personally,
I don't understand why computers DON'T use rechargeable batteries (in
fact, the Lisa 2/5 uses a pack of four 1.25v NiCd's, but that's another
story). So the thing you have to be careful of is that you don't install
a rechargeable battery, since there isn't a circuit in place to recharge it.
With that in mind, it might be preferable to install, in place of a
connector, a battery holder into which a photo-type lithium battery may be
installed, again, of similar voltage and amp-hour rating.
I have a ROM 01, and the previous owner tells me the battery has not been
replaced. So I'm guessing I'll have to do this surgery myself in the
not-to-distant future. When that time comes, I'll let you all know how I
deal with it.
