Re: Lost color capability!
(lost color in a 1978 Apple ][)
Hmmm...Is that a ][ or a ][+? I seem to remember that one of the
improvements in the ][+ was the addition of a "color killer" which drops
the color burst signal from the composite video whenever the display is in
text mode.
If I had to guess, I'd say there is a problem in the video out circuit,
where the NTSC signal is generated...or, if it is a ][+, that the color
killer is not getting deactivated properly.
Hmmm....There is a second composite video output on that machine, on a
couple of pins on the motherboard near the video jack. Have you tried
hooking the monitor up there, to verify that it doesn't work either? It's
a long shot, since I think the two jacks are connected to the same point
in the circuit, but heck, it's worth a try! I've got an Apple ][
Reference Manual at work; I'll look at it tomorrow and see if I can come
up with anything.
Good luck with it, though!
