The hard disk that the emulator will recognize must be a ProDOS-formatted
partition on the Mac hard disk. You can create the partition with the
version of the Apple SCSI HD utility provided with the IIe Card software.
(This utility probably only works with Apple-supplied Mac hard drives;
you'll have to ask the supplier of any third-party drive how to create a
ProDOS partition for the IIe Card.)

It's been 3-4 years since I've done this, but my recollection of the
sequence is:

Step 0: BACK UP THE MAC HARD DISK! (Creating the ProDOS partition will
erase the drive's contents!)

Next, use the applicable disk utility to carve out a partition and define
it as a ProDOS partition. You'll need to leave a chunk of the drive
adequate to hold your Mac software, of course. :)

After you have the drive partitioned, re-format and restore the Mac partition.

Start the IIe software. Go into the IIe Control Panel and assign the hard
disk icon to a convenient slot location.

Boot into ProDOS. Use a ProDOS disk utility to format the hard disk
partition for use (by specifying the slot and drive where you assigned the
hard disk). Install your IIe software on the installed partition and you
should be ready to go.

This is from memory, so apologies If I've missed anything. Hopefully
someone else will fill in any holes.
