Re: SCSI disks for GS?

I take it back. After further testing and major problems, the drive just
will not work with my Ramfast Rev d, rev c, or my Apple Hi-Speed SCSI
card. It seems to work at first, then the computer will lock up.

For example, when doing a disk verify from the finder, it will be going
along fine then the drive light will go off, the computer will lock up
and there's nothing I can do except turn the computer and drive off and
then back on again. I've tried resetting the computer but the screen
just goes black and stays locked up. Any further pressing of A-C-R has
no effect.

It's been suggested to me that the drive is just TOO FAST for the GS. The
drive itself has a 256k read ahead buffer. It's interface is SCSI-II/FAST.
It seems to work okay if I'm just loading a short program or saving an
appleworks file (something small is the key here.) But trying to boot
into GSOS, copy a batch of files, doing a disk verify, or anything that
accesses the drive continuously will cause the computer to lock up.

So now I'm sending the drive to a friend who will test it extensively on
his Mac. If it works out okay for him, I might be in the market to trade
it for a SCSI-I drive of simalar capacity...

Has anyone else had simalar problems like this? If so, how did you fix it?
I know it's not a termination problem. I've got the tech sheet for the
drive and I have the jumper set for the bus to provide termination
power. I've tried it the other 2 ways as well, drive supplies bus, and
drive supplies own. But nothing works.

Every other SCSI device I own works flawlessly on my Ramfast. So it's
something unique to this drive. I'm inclined to believe the suggestion
that it's just too fast for my GS (10mhz, 64k zip'd w/Ramfast Rev d 1mb)

Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
