Chris Deschu (cdeschu@nyx10.cs.du.edu) screamed from comp.sys.apple2:

: >the leading company in the modem world who set the standards. Prices:
: Well, Macwarehouse says it was made by Hayes, but I called Hayes to
: get some information about the newer one, the Magnum 28.8, and Hayes
: says that they have no idea what I'm talking about, that they don't
: make any non-hayes labeled products. If anyone knows the answer,
It is not made by Hayes, it is made "under license by Hayes" which is a
real bad way of saying the makers (Enterprise Technologies, Inc.)
licensed Hayes' "Improved Escape Sequence with Guard Time" which sounds
to me like some way of auto-disconnecting after some amount of idle
time. Whatever. Hayes has a patent on it and they had to license it.
<shrug>
It's been working fine for me for about 3 months now. No, I don't know
if it can be upgraded. (No phone #s came with it, so you'd have to ask
MacWarehouse directly it seems.)
