<Depends where the noise is coming from... it could well be the
<anti-static brush that rubs on the end of the main spindle. After a few
<years some of them get noisy. If so, you have two options. Either remove
<the brush or replace it. Trying to re-set it take more than a little luck
<for success...   *<8o)X

I took the option is remove the darned thing. I did this based on
advice of a Sider repairman and the darned thing ran for several
years. (It still runs, but I don't use it since it is 40 megs & I
bought a 400 meg SCSI.) I just looked in my desk drawer and it is still
there with a dimple worn into the center.
