I have a USRobotics Sportster 14.4k FAX, and it just plain wouldn't respond to
whatever init string I fed it at the begining...after a couple of minutes, it'd
work. I now have this init string, and it works like a charm for ProTERM v3.1,
ANSITerm v2.1, and Spectrum v1.0:
AT&F1X4&K3S11=40&W
&F1= Hardware handshaking template
X4 = Extended codes
&K3= Selective compression (57.6k!)
S11=40= Faster tone dialing
&W= Save it!
