In that case, it isn't "nonvolatile RAM". It is an EEPROM
(electrically erasable, programmable, read only memory).
Most EEPROMs will take up to 10,000 write cycles. Some may only
handle 1,000. Others can do up to 100,000.
(At least, that is what they are rated to handle.)
Still, I agree - using &W in a modem init string (sent each time you
start a program or dial a service) is a bad idea.
