The Amiga is very well thought of by its users. It's a pretty neat computer,
with a nice responsive OS, the best TeX around and a lot of very good
shareware/PD programs (like the GS). Far more interesting than the Mac in
my opinion. 
 
The question is whether or not you want a system which had the corporate
spirit embedded in it. If so then you get a PC or a Mac, and you're probably
better off with the PC as the sw base is similar and you aren't tied to 
Apple.
 
The Amiga is doing fine in its vertical market which is video and the lower
end computers are selling fine everywhere but the US. Their new CD32 is
a great games' CD console.
 
That being said I still feel something special for my 2 GS's. Wonderful
personal computers. I wish I could say the same for the Mac. It's simply 
missing too many things to make it interesting. The most important of these
