The only question is can it be done with the II
and if so can it be done cheaply or would it cost more than it's
worth?

GOOGLE NTSC PSONE LCD

you need seperate H and V sync signals.

you need a chip to make these signals available
to you...

Interesting...

ISTR hooking one up (after gaining access to some internal signals)
with just composite video.

I also seem to remember that, though quite crisp and bright, it
has significantly less than 280 pixels within the 40-microsecond
"window" of Apple II video, so you don't see all the pixels.

It might be OK for graphics without fine structure, but for text
it's a problem.

Would it still work okay for games? I looked at the pics of the IIGS
screen on the PSOne LCD and it looked pretty good. Ever since the IIc
first came out I've thought it needed a really good small LCD to make
it a truly porrtable system and this looked to me like it might work.
I knew there were people here who knew the technical aspects of the
Apple II line better than I do, so that's why I threw the question out
there.

The PSOne LCD has a very high quality display, but the problem
is the overscan "protection" of Apple II video, which only uses
40 microseconds of the 63-microsecond horizontal period to display
information. The border area is wasted, and with it, valuable LCD
real estate.

If fine detail and exact borders are not critical, then this LCD
produces very colorful and sharp graphics displays from Apple video.

Its picture quality is substantially better than most portable LCD
TVs that I've seen.
