I replaced most of my household lights with compact flourescents when
the modern high-frequency switching types became available about 15
years ago, and I've still got a couple of those original lamps running.
The Apple eMac I owned until recently was never in direct sunlight, but
sat two metres from a CFL for four years. Like most of Apple's current
computers the eMac shell was clear polycarbonate painted white on the
inside. Even after years of exposure it still looked pure white, but the
keyboard's key caps which were made from white plastic were quite
yellowed. I don't think the CFL contributed to it much since all the
visible parts of the caps were evenly yellowed, even on the backs facing
away from the lamp. The undersides of the caps were still white though,
so the yellowing was probably due to exposure to the indirect sunlight.
