The SSC in slot 3 was a standard way of attaching an 80 column terminal
for both Apple Pascal and CP/M. Neither of these use the BASIC PR#
interface.

A IIe checks at power up to see if a card with ROM is in slot 3. If
there is it maps out the internal 80 col firmware.

With the enhanced IIe firmware the IRQ handler is located in the
internal slot 3 space ($c3fa) so putting an SSC in would break
interrupt support.
