At one point I found myself putting the A2ROMulan CD-ROM into a Quadra 650,
and sharing that over AppleShare. My EtherTalk-connected IIgs mounted
the volume and copied files directly off.

It actually got a little stranger than that, because I wanted the files
on my Linux box, which is also available over AppleShare. I ended up
using GS/ShrinkIt to read files from the CD-ROM over the network into
a rather large ShrinkIt archive written over the network to the Linux box.

This took a couple of hours. The pain motivated me to add HFS support
to CiderPress, which provides a much simpler alternative approach:

- Get a USB CF card reader. Connect it to a PC running Win2K or later.
- Insert CFFA-formatted CF card. (Use ProDOS on the 32MB partitions, HFS
  on the larger partitions.)
- Copy & paste files from the CD-ROM to CFFA with CiderPress. If the
CD-ROM has 32MB ProDOS partitions, copy the whole volume.

The trick in all this is to make sure that the Apple II files still have
their file types when they're written to the CF card. If that weren't
important, you could copy the files off of the CD-ROM with something like
HFV Explorer.

Note also that ".iso" images of CD-ROMs are essentially equivalent to
ProDOS-ordered ".po" disk images, and can be opened directly by CP.
