I think the requirements for a successful "modern day" Apple II product
are:
1) The project is completed
2) Someone finds a use for it.
3) If not profitable, losses are sustainable.

It's obvious from a quick scan of eBay that there is money to be made in
the  Apple II world, but mostly in the collectibles market. I suspect
anyone still developing (especially hardware) is driven by something other
than the profit motive. At least I hope this is the case ;-)
