So how does this produced colored text?

Maybe Bryan is just talking about the usual color-fringed text you get on NTSC Apples when they are in mixed mode?

Linards,

Remember, when you select C051, it is supposed to be monochrome text, but it has color-fringed text because it switches back and forth too fast less than 17030 cycles. If it switches more than 17030 cycles, it will be smooth true monochrome text. I stated earlier that it works fine on Apple II, Apple //e and Apple IIgs. Remember, Apple IIgs has NTSC video port, but not RGB video port. When you hook up NTSC monitor and RGB monitor to Apple IIgs, you will see color-fringed text on NTSC monitor while RGB monitor has monochrome text.
    I hope that it helps.

OK. So this was just a way of referring to text as viewed in *any*
mixed text/graphics (burst on) mode. Not so amazing.

It might be interesting to test your monitor by seeing how many lines
of graphics must be present on the screen to see any color at all
(since there is some threshold for detecting the presence of the
color burst).
