I think I would prefer an Enhanced IIe board in a Platinum IIe case if all the chips are socketed on an Ehanced IIe board for easier repair or replacement of defective chips. The Platinum's IIe keyboard would not have any problem working with the older motherboard.
Ironically, the *sockets* are precisely why Apple II's usually fail! The probability of any of the chips failing is miniscule, as long as the top is kept on and charged fingers are kept out. But the probability of a socket connection failing is nearly one over a period of ten years. That's why "scootching" chips back into sockets is the most prevalent way of restoring function to a "dead" Apple II. And the risk of damaging an Apple II board by removing good chips and soldering in sockets is relatively high. -michael Music synthesis for 8-bit Apple II's!
