My RFI comment was meant much more as sarcastic humor. I personally used to leave the lid off of my GS most of the time, I knew/know many others that did and do the same - IMHO, its much more common in Apple II circles than on any other platform, past or present, because of our machines' inherrent accessability. I actually completely removed the shielding out of one of my GS's in order to create more expansion space. And then there are such cool beasts like the apple crate..... lol.
I get the joke, and my point was that RFI goes both ways--sometimes it makes sense to take steps to protect yourself. I have never personally been bothered by the RFI emitted from an open (or pre-RFI-mod) Apple II, but if I were operating a sensitive receiver, it wouldn't surprise me if an Apple II (even "shielded") put RFI all over the band (within 50 feet or so). I wouldn't be worried about incoming RFI affecting the operation of a digital device like the Apple II, but visible (and therefore high-level) RFI on a monitor can be quite annoying. Also note that RFI can be a concern even when all regulatory requirements are met--e.g. the radio station is transmitting a completely legal signal, and an unshielded monitor cable is receiving it unintentionally. -michael 8-voice music synthesizer using NadaNet networking!
