Fortunately this is _NOT_ true! I posted about half a year ago a
step-by-step guide in this group on how to do it with the title
"Reading Apple2 floppies on a PC using Disk2FD".
It should be pretty easy to find with Google.

You only need an additional floppy drive (5,25" or 3.5") on your PC
beside the 5.25" one containing the Apple2 floppy - I know this sounds
weird but it's exactly this way...
