read Rubywand's FAQ on Power Supplies. I have fixed two //e PSUs with the
identical fault -> 2 dried out small electrolytics that only cost a few
dollars to rectify.

regarding your error at 14, imagine doing that as an adult because you
missed the power on LED. I did that and fried my PC Transporter's Floppy
controller chip. and I am still kicking myself. :)
