Don't forget that ProDOS 16 came out with the IIgs when it was released 
in late 1986. It wasn't nearly as advanced as GS/OS, and it was missing 
the Finder, but it allowed you to run "IIgs desktop" programs i.e. 
things like PaintWorks and Deluxe Paint. ProDOS 16 was later replaced 
with GS/OS when System 4.0 was released, which must have been in late 
1988.

Imagine the disincentive to software development if after months of work
