Well, yes. Every now and then the topic returns on the various ancient Unix
lists and groups. Somebody really should make some time and see whether the
Amsterdam Compiler Kit[1] can be backported..

[1] Which is the Minix compiler, for instance. It used to have a PDP11 backend,
    and it does understand Ansi-C. And it's covered by a BSD-style license,
    which makes things even better :)
