Re: Installing OS6.01 -> IIgs hangs........

Courtney,

I think William is right about having a faulty RAM card, I too have had this
happen with both a 4M card and a 2M card. In both cases they would get about
half way through the boot sequence and then hang. I was even able to install
System 6 without running into a problem until I tried to run it. Another
possibility is your RAM disk is too big, set it to 0K, as you won't have
enough total RAM to run a RAM disk.

Originally I thought that your 1M RAM wasn't enough to run System 6.0.1, but
I just did on a ROM-3 with no RAM card and it worked leaving me with 38K
free memory. I'm not sure about a ROM-1, your 1M should give 1.25M total. A
ROM-3 has 1M on board. A 2M-4M RAM card is better for System 6.

To find faulty chips it is best to use a specific RAM testing program. For
my 1M-4M GS Juice Plus it came with one that shows you which chip is faulty.
My 256K-4M GS RAM Ultra also has a program that can show which chips are
faulty (graphically). If your card is an Apple 1M I am not sure if there is
a program to test the RAM, I suspect there would be, others may know. In
fact I think I have a couple of other RAM test programs, but I only use the
ones specific for the cards.
