Paul, it's not the money, it's the principal of the thing. Yes, I would
prefer to spend MORE money to pay the author directly rather than be ripped
off by his US-based collection agency. You have made it plain that you feel
this is stupid. I think that principal is worth a few bucks. If I were that
serious about the lousy six bucks, I would just use it for free or use other
alternatives.

I might add that once you have become a victim of recurring credit-card
fraud, you may become a wee bit more cautious. I just finished a
6-month-long process of getting a terrible mess straightened out that
involved many long-distance calls and quite a lot of my time and emotional
energy, and I still don't know what effect it may ultimately have on my
credit report.

I guess eventually we will all handle these kinds of transactions with
disposable one-time credit card numbers. I look forward to having that
option.
