Neither do I, so that's why I didn't send them a check. BTW if I
sent a foreign check, I wouldn't only have to pay a mere $6 extra, I
would also have to pay my own bank an additional $10 (ca). Therefore
I use checks only when there's no other reasonable alternative, and
when I think it's worth that extra cost.

If he doesn't like the cheaper alternative -- well that's really his
problem. I find it hard to understand why one doesn't "like" a way
of payment that is both cheaper (in this case some $6+$10 = $16
cheaper for me) and faster (2 minutes, compared to 1-2 weeks of
sending a check by snail mail). The risk of being frauded, while
present, is IMO being greatly exaggreated by many people. Of course
common sense applies here as well as in other cases: don't give out
your credit card to ANYONE, no matter whether it's web sites or
restaurants....
