Your memory is a little faulty. Renegade is split into two loads, New
Zealand Story is split into several loads with each set of four levels
and a boss being a load.

Power Drift is a good example of how compressing things to a single
load WORKED on the C64 - the pace was fast, there was variety in the
backgrounds and it all ran at a good speed.

It might also be fairer to compare C64 cartridges with NES cartridges
- SCI (Chase HQ II) on the C64 has all the presentation screens, some
excellent side graphics and is a good interpretation of the arcade
game.

One aspect of Nintendo's Seal of Quality was that developers were
limited to the number of games they could produce in a year - so it
was in their interests to produce high-quality games that would sell.

I wouldn't say NES games are, in general, better - I would say that
the emphasis in the gameplay is slightly different (partly down to the
Japanese roots of the system). Graphically the C64 is capable of more,
musically there are some NES games that match the best the SID can
offer.
