Graphic WP for students: ideas?

Hi all
 
I am looking for a suggestion for a slim WP program to use on a few GS
machines in my classroom. Something like coolwriter would be great,
 
 
But some special needs:
 
ONE
 
I would like one where the _default_ can be set to save as ASCII.
 
This because students will very ofetn continue their writing on Macs around
our campus & I would like to make it very easy & portable. I know I can 
repeat "save as text" at them forvever, but many won't -- do teenagers 
listen?
 
EgoED would seem to fit the bill except:
 
students also find it confusing to have two sets of menus bars as it is 
an NDA and it remains there once open, taking memory when it is no longer 
needed.
 
 
TWO
 
Document info  -- word count -- is needed (a spell checker is not)
 
THREE
 
low memory needs for 1 meg gs.
 
 
FOUR:
 
must be graphical because it is what kids know & love.
 
I appreciate any ideas or suggestions!
