Mostly a nub here but what I ended up doing was (getting a cffa, if rocks!) 
a scsi card and applecd.  Burned the 2mg's onto a iso 9660 cd rom and loaded 
the images into asimov from the cd,  never did get appletalk to work for me 
from 2 performas, 1 quadra or a classic.  Just got a fallon phone net setup 
with 3 adapters, maybe that would help but with now having a cdrom for my 
iigs, the whole appletalk thing is kinda moot, the only reason I collected 
the macs was to support the iigs.  ah well.
