I recently did some headbanging of my own trying to get my G4 to
talk to my iigs after my Uthernet card quit working.
For future reference, I'll post my solution here.
I have my iigs connected to a Beige G3 (os9.1) via an appletalk link.
The Beige is on the same ethernet network as the G4 (10.4.11), and I
needed a way to bridge the two together. I am using IPNetRouter 1.6.8
(as a demo) to do this. It allows the gs' appletalk segment to see
the rest of the network. Marinetti 3.0 and the tcp/ip linklayer take
care of the networking on the gs. I use SAFE2 as the ftp client to
log into the G4.
This way the Beige just has to be on to the facilitate the
connection. Yes, the Beige does nothing but 'arbitrate' the
connection, but it works really well. With your hardware you should
be able to do the same.
