On that note, I'm a little confused by something. The cable combo I'm
using is a null-modem cable connected to a modem cable, connected to a
25->9pin adaptor. Now, to my way of thinking that should be the same as
using _just_ a null modem lead (since modem leads are essentially just
straight through, or so I thought), but if I try that - zilch.

Any thoughts?
