No idea, although the guy who gave it to me thinks it might have been
used, and I quote, "...to control something dreadfully medical."
It also has the words "Nuclear Physics Training Course" on the lid, so I
dread to think.

Correct, although as I said the cabling to make it work seems a little
odd.
