Not sure about "elegant". Maybe "adventuresome". Lots of iffy
variables. (Didn't know about entry point in image that sets hooks.
What is it?)
It's the same entry point that "3EAG" or CALL 1002 goes to: $A851.
The DOS Manual states that anytime you need to disconnect DOS, it
can be easily reconnected by jumping to that address.
I never had any problems with the cassette interface. With a
bit of care in grounding and levels, it should work fine.
And it's hard to beat getting an Apple II bootstrapped into
DOS in a few minutes with nothing but a PC and a headphone
jumper cable! ;-)
Note that a .wav file was suggested, not an .mp3, which will _not_
work, since zero crossings are not preserved by .mp3 compression.

That, or some other method, like sneakernet with 3.5" disks and
an old Mac, or CiderPress and CFFA, or...
