Actually, some simple experiments suggested that they work okay. I used
the "zero crossing" mode in the CiderPress cassette converter rather than
a real Apple II, but they should be roughly equivalent.
That said, I don't actually recommend using MP3. WAV is a lot less
riskier than a lossy format, and 22KHz 8-bit mono is about the same size
as a high-quality MP3.
