: I agree with Chris on this point. It's too bad that the Apple
II was
: killed right before the Internet really took off, high speed
internet
: became normal, and home networking because the "in thing".

I agree as well, but I would think the IIgs would
have had to be the main Internet savvy machine, being
that it's about the only one with addressable memory
large enough to actually run a fully HTML compatible
browser. I however don't agree with Apple's decision
to end the Apple IIgs. They could have dropped all
of the 8-bit ones and kept that going a bit longer.
I mean 16 bit is enough to build it up into a suitable
internet capable machine. This may have led to the
creation of a 65C832, or is there a 32 bit version?

: If Apple and/or a third party vendor had released a Ethernet
card early
: in the Apple II's life cycle, who knows what might have
happened. We
: could have had some of the applications that some have clamored
for a
: long time (web browser, news, etc, etc).

As implied above, I agree too that Apple lagged on
that one. Imagine the choice between a IIgs and a
Macintosh. In all honesty, I have a IIgs up and
running, and I like it better than my PowerMac.

: But, hey that's the way life goes. I would plunk down for the
LanceGS
: if there was some practical use for it. But since I have a
IIe, there's
: really no point right now. I was tempted to try to buy a used
IIGS to
: tie it into my DSL line with the LanceGS but too much time to
try and
: put things together...maybe some day...:D

I had bought 2 LANceGS cards and sold them both.
I couldn't seem to see the point in downloading
several programs and then having to spend another
$50-$60 on top of that to get it online. Not to
mention that my ISP doesn't support dynamic IP
addresses, so I would have needed to use a router
to connect, which I could have done. I had no
idea of the through-put I could expect. Is there
anyone with a IIgs online with a LANceGS who can
give me some firm actual through-put data? Would
appreciate it.

Thanks, Merry Christmas and Happy II year,
