It seems that some CD drives have a built-in boot
track that can be recognized by firmware and some
do not. Apparently yours is one that does not. So,
put a disk in before you boot. 8)
I guess I forgot to mention that the CD caddy already has a CD in it and
is mounted in the drive when I power up the system... :)

You quite possibly have a conflict between
the AppleCDSC driver and the HS.SCSI2. Question: Is that
NEC drive a SCSI2?...
Gott check on that one - I'm betting specs on a drive that old are going
to be scarce on the net.
--<snip>--
Quite a few of the original developers of Apple IIgs software
are not working with them anymore, nor do they become involved.
I believe there was mention that Syndicomm was selling those
drivers now. If you can't find them I will and post the link
here.
That would be appreciated - I can't find it. Unfortunately, Syndicomm
doesn't always list everything that's included with their various 'bundles'.

Again, I have never had to install an NDA or CDEV, simply copy
them to the proper folder, or the system folder and it asks if
you want it in the correct folder, and reboot.
Tried that. The system goes through the motions of 'installing' it ("do
you want this put in the correct folder", etc), but the file never
appears in the NDA list, or folder for that matter. Simply dragging and
dropping to the NDA folder (no dialogue about proper folders) has the
same effect. May be time for a fresh GS/OS installation - not sure how
to go about that, though. Another learning experience to look forward to.

It's an easy mod, just make sure you solder it onto
the correct locations. I use "1N4148" with the black
line towards the connector. I can even take a pic of
the back of my HS SCSI card and email it to you for
a reference. 8)
That would also be appreciated.
