: Bill,
:
: I did my last set of SIMM swaps to determine
: the faulty SIMM, and then I tracked down a
: copy of Bitbanger and let it do its thing.
: Wouldn't you know it -- neither test shows
: any bad RAM any more. Sigh. But good.
: And I can now copy tons of files between
: folders again.
:
: At any rate, if you could officially comment
: on what sort of SIMMs are best (to confirm
: David's comments, above), and if you could
: officially state what SIMM socket is what
: bank of RAM, that would help my troubleshoot
: this stuff in the future. I'll probably start
: trolling for SIMMS "just in case" once you
: confirm the type of parts needed.
:
: Thanks,
: Warr
Ideally, 8 - 1M x 1 chip SIMMs work best, or
SIMMs with 9 chips, being that parity is not
important or necessary.
IIRC, 2 and 3 chip SIMMs do not work at all.
SIMM banks are from top to bottom, however,
this could depend on which revision of the
card you have, as I believe in the beginning,
they went bottom to top. The very first one
did have jumpers, but, I realized that most
folks would simply desire a full 4MB, so I
left them off.
I have SIMMs, if you want, I can test a set
and send them to you.
